Lau Lu Ching

Director, External Affairs (Singapore & Malaysia), MSD

Lu Ching is the Director of External Affairs (Singapore & Malaysia) in MSD. Prior to joining MSD, Lu Ching was a partner at the Klareco Communications. She was also the Head of Global Communications at an Indonesian conglomerate. In this capacity, she leads one of the world’s largest pulp and paper company’s group’s communication team for management, coordination and monitoring of global and regional level communications for the group. She had also put in place the company’s sustainability 2020 programme and conservation policies during her tenure. 

Prior to this, Lu Ching was the Global Crisis Communications Advisor for the international Oil Major, BP Plc since 2013. Based in London, she is part of BP Group’s communication team providing expert advice on crisis, global and regional level communications. She joined BP’s Country President’s office in 2010 covering Communications and Executive Office functions prior to her deployment at BP’s HQ at St James, London. She also leads BP Plc’s communications team in the promulgation, communication and translation of BP level technical information, energy exploration efforts, country level engagement and community impact to stakeholders and media groups. 

As a trained financial professional, Lu Ching started out as an auditor for KPMG Peat Marwick in 1995. 

She then joined the civil service of Singapore, serving in several departments in the Prime Minister’s Office from 1997 to 2010. Her last appointment was in the Prime Minister’s Office as Assistant Secretary/ Deputy Director (Projects) to the Prime Minister, where she was involved in several national events and cross Ministerial policy formulation assignments at APAC level. 

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Accounting and Financial Analysis from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, United Kingdom in 1995.
