Charles is a senior partner in PwC. He joined the firm in 1983 and throughout his career, has specialised in delivering audit, assurance and capital market transactions services to listed companies. For a number of years, he led the PwC business responsible for serving the firm's larger listed audit clients. His other roles have included sponsor partner for the firm's Building Public Trust programme, the Non-Executive representative for the UK's Tax practise and lead partner of the UK firm's Senior Networking Programme. He was the Chairman of the Audit and Assurance Faculty of the ICAEW and a member of its governing body and continues as Chairman of the Audit Quality Forum.

 

Charles is a magistrate, a member of the Advisory Counsel for the Prince of Wales' Accounting for Sustainability project, advisor to the Mansion House Scholarship Scheme and a governor of an academy primary school in Hackney.

 

Charles is a liveryman and court member of the Worshipful Company of Grocers and a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.

 

Alongside his COLC committee membership, Charles co-chaired the City's Business - a programme to promote the City's engagement in the employability agenda.

 

Between September 2015-16, Charles served as one of the two Sheriffs of the City of London. On 10th November 2017 Charles took office as the Lord Mayor of the City of London.
